“I often visit classrooms and ask who loves to draw. In kindergarten and first grade, all the hands go up. In second grade, most of the hands go up. In third grade, half the hands are up. By fourth and fifth grade, most of the hands are down, or perhaps pointing to ‘the class artist.’ It’s sad to see the artistic, creative energy slowing down, being packed away. I am convinced it’s because children learn early that there are ‘rules’ to follow. But when it comes to expressing yourself, you can invent your own rules. You can change them, you can stretch them, or you can ignore them all and dive headfirst into the unknown”.- Peter Raynolds

Peter Raynolds is an author-illustrator of a number of books, these mainly being children’s story’s. At a young age he was constantly doodling and now as an adult he collects children’s books and his own doodles on scraps of paper, envelopes and napkins which he keeps in old tin boxes.

He has worked with different authors to create their visions of what they want there story’s to portray. I knew about Peter Raynolds through his wounderfull illustrations in the series of  “Judy Moody Books” By Megan Mcdonald and when i first saw the illustrations for the books i immediately fell in love with them.

I love the way Raynolds constructs the book covers for the “Judy Moody” books, he uses a brown paper bag like background, does the illustrations in black fine lines and then adds small amounts of colour and embosses the patches of colour. This gives the Books so much character and life.

Raynolds also mackes his illustrations as simple as  posible and payes lots of attention towards the shadding, this makes the drawings stand out.

Murakami is know for being provocative in his work and has strong views and opinions. He invented his own character “MR.DOB” which is like his alter ego, this character appears in most of Murakami’s paintings and sculptures along with the world of jellyfish eyes, singing moss, magic mushrooms and morphing creatures. His style involves acidicly bright colours along with fine and heavy black lines to accentuate the object.
